Someday
Celeborn stood on the dock and watched the white sails that marked the ship grow slowly smaller and harder to spot until – was that a flash? – it passed out of sight.
Gone. Half of his heart had walked slowly and serenely onto the deck of that ship and out of his life and world. He'd known it would hurt, but he hadn't expected the emptiness that echoed where her voice and light and laughter and even pain had once filled him.
Someday, he promised her in his heart, even as he had promised her in words.
He'd join her. Someday.
